Saldos de Outono/Inverno (1) | FW 18/19 Sales (1) – Slow fashion & Sales

Na era slow fashion os saldos ainda fazem sentido? Numa altura em que já todas nós privilegiamos a qualidade (e um fabrico sustentável), em detrimento de um armário a abarrotar de peças difíceis de conjugar entre si, será que ainda vale a pena investir nos saldos? In times of slow fashion do sales still matter? When all of us favor quality (and sustainable manufacturing) instead of a closet full of pieces difficult to combine is it still worth investing in sales? (see the Máxima mag post here)

Sim! Mesmo que queira comprar poucas peças, os saldos continuam a valer muito a pena, sobretudo se o seu orçamento para roupa for limitado. O movimento slow fashion tem estado muito associado (e tem promovido) o consumo de marcas de mais qualidade ou de marcas emergentes que têm uma imagem de maior responsabilidade ambiental e social, nem sempre comprovada. Infelizmente não temos todas temos acesso a estas marcas e esta abordagem tem sido injusta para a high street fashion que tem feito um esforço de adaptação às novas exigências de consumo. É possível procurar um equilíbrio entre um excesso de um consumo pouco responsável e desenfreado e o outro extremo que diaboliza a high street fashion; é perfeitamente possível encontrar em marcas correntes peças de qualidade e bastante intemporais que, se forem bem cuidadas, como já dissemos aqui, podem ter uma longevidade surpreendente.

Yes! Even if you want to buy only a few garments, sales are still worth especially if your budget for clothes is limited. The slow fashion movement has been promoting higher quality brands or emerging brands that are seen as social and environmental responsible (although not always proven). Unfortunately not all of us have access to these brands and, in a way, this approach has been unfair to fast fashion that has made an effort to adapt to new consumption requirements. From my point of view it is possible to look for a balance between the extreme of a not responsible consumtion and the other extreme of refusing to buy fast fashion; it is possible to find quality and long-lasting design pieces that if well cared for (as we mentioned here) can reach a surprising longevity.

Nesta primeira fase dos saldos, em que ainda há (quase) tudo e em (quase) todos os tamanhos, aproveite para comprar dois tipos de peças: (1)) aquelas que servirão para atualizar o seu guarda-roupa e que sabe que serão muito efémeras pelo que não valiam o preço pré-saldos; e (2) os básicos de melhor qualidade que merecem o investimento e que poderá agora encontrar a um preço mais baixo. Deixe para o fim dos saldos, quando já há pouca escolha, uma ida às lojas e/ou visita aos sites (o resultado é diferente) para encontrar a preços imbatíveis peças que não compraria noutras circunstâncias.

In these first days of sales, where one can find (almost) everything and in (almost) all sizes, we have the opportunity to buy two types of pieces: (1) those very ephemeral that will update our wardrobe but were not worth the pre-sales prices; and (2) quality basics that are worth the investment and which you can now find at a lower price. Leave for the end of the sales, when there is little choice, a visit to the stores and/or to the sites (the result is different) to find some unbeatable prices.

Antes da Internet e das lojas online era preciso estar presente na abertura das lojas para garantir aquelas peças especiais que já tinha experimentado e queria mesmo comprar nos saldos; depois, durante alguns anos (e ainda hoje em alguns sites) bastava sentar-se à meia-noite com o seu laptop e encomendar tudo online. Hoje é um pouco mais complicado: todas já vivemos o desespero de os sites bloquearem na abertura dos saldos e ser muito difícil navegar e impossível fazer compras. À uma da manhã, já em desespero, desistimos do site e resolvemos estar na abertura da loja às 10 em ponto. Pior! Quando chegamos, as lojas estão superlotadas, as filas nas caixas desmotivam mesmo as mais persistentes e nunca há o nosso número! …Respire fundo! Deixe passar os dois ou três primeiros dias e regresse depois às lojas físicas ou aos sites e tudo correrá melhor, os stocks foram repostos e conseguirá com tranquilidade encontrar o que procura.

Before the Internet and online stores we would be at the opening of the stores to make sure we would buy those special pieces (that we had tried before); later, for a few years (and even today for some websites), all we had to do was to sit quietly at midnight with our laptop and order everything online. Today it is a little more complicated: we all have experienced the desperation of sites crashing at the opening of sales and how difficult it is to navigate and how impossible it is to order. Finally around one in the morning, in despair, we gave up the site and decide to be at the store opening at 10 o'clock. That's even worse! When we arrive the stores are overcrowded, the queue to the cash is never ending and our size is always over! …Take a deep breath! Let the first two or three days go by and then return to the stores or the sites and everything will be smoother, the stocks have been replenished and you will be able to find what you are looking for.

É certo que haverá sempre alguma coisa que não vai encontrar e que desapareceu repentinamente sem perceber como (as marcas retiram dos saldos algumas referências que enviam para outros mercados) ; reze ao Deus dos saldos e talvez lhe aconteça, no fim dos saldos, quando já está apenas a espreitar as coleções novas, vislumbrar de repente a camisola de losangos e que já se tinha esquecido!

Of course there will always be something that you will not find out and that you will not understand how it disappeared so fast (the brands take some references from the sales to place in other markets); say a pray to the God of sales, and maybe you have the chance of finding it later when you are no longer looking for it!
