Dê a volta ao seu armário! O primeiro passo para começar bem o Outono | Organize your closet to fully enjoy Fall!

Antes de nos deixarmos arrebatar pelas tendências Outono/Inverno 2018-19, recordemos uma regra essencial para tirar partido da mudança de estação (a repetir na Primavera), em particular para quem mais lamenta o fim do Verão (confesso que não é o meu caso). O princípio de tudo deve ser a organização do armário. Por mais que lhe apeteça, resista a fazer compras de novas peças sem ter arrumado o armário primeiro – acredite que o seu orçamento vai agradecer e o estilo também!

Before delighting ourselves with AW 2018-19 trends, today we recall some common tips to take full advantage of the season, in particular for those who regret the end of summer (I confess it is not my case). Begin Autumn by organizing your closet. No matter how much you feel like it, resist making new purchases without organizing the closet before – believe your budget will thank you and your style too!

Tudo para fora. Faça uma revisão geral do seu armário e organize tudo para a transição de estações. O tão conhecido método dos três montes (eu acrescento mais um) é infalível e dá-nos sempre a alegria de reencontrar aquele casaco adorado que pensávamos ter perdido:

All come out. Do a general overhaul of your closet and arrange everything for the season to come. The well-known method of the three piles is infallible (I add a pile more) and always gives us the joy of rediscovering that adored coat that we thought we had lost:

-  no primeiro monte deve colocar tudo o que já não vai mesmo usar (para oferecer, vender ou reciclar se possível). Seja séria, peças que não vestiu durante dois anos seguidos, ou mais, não oferecem dúvidas. Peças que não estão impecáveis ou, pelo menos, em muito bom estado, e que não sejam recicláveis também não levantam dúvidas (todas sabemos que a camisola de caxemira que foi da sua avó é de estimação mas se já não tem forma nem cor, o lugar certo não é no seu armário, guarde-a na gaveta das recordações). No fim do dia, este monte – que não volta para dentro do seu armário em circunstância nenhuma – deve ser dividido entre peças para guardar (se a sua casa tiver espaço suficiente pode valer a pena guardar algumas peças que estejam em bom estado, que lhe pareça que podem resistir ao tempo e que poderá vir a usar daqui a vários anos num regresso de tendências); peças para dar e peças para vender, se optar por esta solução.

-    in the first pile you should put everything that you will no longer use (to donation, to sell or to recycle if possible). Be honest to yourself, garments you have not worn for two years in a row do not offer any doubts. Garments that are not in perfect shape and that are not recyclable also do not raise doubts (we all know that the cashmere sweater that was once your grandmother's is a treasure but if it has no more shape or color, the right place is not in your closet, save it in the drawer of memories). At the end of the day this pile will not – under any circumstance – return to your closet: split it between what you want to keep (if you have the room for it it may be worthy to store away some garments that may resist to time and be wearable in a future come back trend); what you will donate and what you will sell out (if this is an option for you);

-  no segundo monte, coloque as peças sobre as quais tem dúvidas, incluindo todas aquelas que não vestiu no último ano. Estas peças têm que ser experimentadas e tem que pensar como vai conjugá-las, só depois poderão voltar para o armário ou ir para o primeiro monte das coisas para dar.

-   on the second pile, place the pieces that you have doubts about. These pieces have to be tried and you must foresee how to (re)combine them before they can go back to the closet or go to the first pile;

-    no terceiro monte, que voltará para o armário, coloque todas as peças sobre as quais não tem dúvidas que ainda quer e que vai usar bastante.

-   in the third pile, place the garments that you are sure must return to your closet;

-  o quarto monte é o das peças que quer conservar mas que precisam de pequenos consertos, como a falta de botões, bainhas descosidas, ou um fecho que não funciona. Peças com problemas irresolúveis, como um tecido puído, desbotado ou com borbotos deverão ir para o primeiro monte (ou se não reunirem as condições para oferecer, diretamente para o lixo). Este quarto monte só deverá voltar para dentro do armário depois de realizados estes arranjos – resista a guardar peças que não estão em condições de ser usadas de imediato.

-    the fourth pile is the one of the garments that you wish to keep but are claiming for some minor repairs, lack of buttons or a zip that does not work. Pieces with unsolvable problems, such as faded or bloated fabric, must go directly to the first pile. Be sure that you do not store this pile in your closet before repairing it. In the same way you wouldn´t place your laundry in your closet, do not store clothes that are not ready to wear immediately 

Com o armário vazio, aproveite para fazer uma limpeza geral mais profunda, colocar anti traças se necessário e, se lhe agradar a ideia, perfumantes.

Once the closet is empty take the chance to a more deep clean, to place anti moths and, eventually, perfumers.

Agora tudo para dentro (o terceiro monte na íntegra e as peças que selecionou do segundo) mas com método: organize o seu armário como lhe der mais jeito, por peças, por cores, por conjuntos, por básicos vs tendências (há milhares de sugestões na internet). Cada uma de nós deve escolher (melhor ainda, inventar) o seu próprio método, aquele que for mais útil ao seu estilo. Fundamental é que fique tudo visível (acredite que não se vai lembrar de peças que não estão à vista).

Place everything inside again but with a method: organize your closet as you like, by type of garments, by colors, by sets, by basics vs trends (there are plenty of suggestions at the internet): Choose (or even better, create) the method that better suits your style, while assuring that everything is visible (you will not remember to wear anything that is not in sight). 

A minha sugestão é que arrume o seu armário dando um lugar de destaque às suas peça-chave mais habituais, isto é a parte “gatilho” do seu guarda-roupa, aquela que funciona como a base, a peça “mãe” dos seus looks. Eu construo por regra os meus conjuntos a partir das partes de cima – camisas, camisolas ou blazers – e escolho tudo o resto a partir daqui. Na base do armário arrume em caixas (eu uso cestos) os cintos, os lenços e outros acessórios que deve ter à mão e também visíveis quando estiver a escolher o que vai vestir.

My suggestion is to organize your closet giving a prominent place to your most important garments, meaning the "trigger" part of your wardrobe, the one that works as the base, the "mother" piece of your looks. I usually build my outfits from the top - shirts, sweaters or blazers - and I choose everything else from here but most people base their wardrobe on bottoms. Then, on the base of the closet, pack (I use baskets) the belts, scarves and other accessories that you should have on hand and visible when you are choosing what to wear.

Agora sim, pode ir às compras: já tem uma noção clara do que tem e pode decidir mais objetivamente o que precisa de comprar. Isto evitar-lhe-á comprar peças repetidas de que realmente não precisa (todas temos tendência para repetir o mesmo tipo de peças com que nos sentimos bem, no meu caso camisas brancas) e liberta orçamento para atualizar o seu armário.

Now, you can go shopping: you already have a clear idea of what you have and you can decide better what you need to buy. This will prevent you from buying garments that you do not really need (we all tend to repeat pieces, I always need a white shirt more J) and free up your budget to upgrade your closet.

Antes de ir às compras dê uma volta pelos sites ou pelas lojas e faça uma lista, distinguindo entre o que desejaria ter (Wish List) e o que tem mesmo que comprar (Must Have List) e entre os básicos que precisa, e aos quais deve dar prioridade, e as peças tendência que a ajudarão a atualizar o seu estilo (falaremos disto em breve).

Before shopping, take a look at the websites or at the stores and make two separate lists, a Wish List and a Must Have List and distinguish among the basics you need (to which priority should be given) and the trend garments that will update your style (we'll talk about in a next post).

Esqueça as combinações que fazia no ano passado (até porque as regras mudaram, adeus “mix&match”, viva o “all over”, falaremos disto em breve) e divirta-se a criar novos conjuntos.

E lembre-se que é a altura certa para as peças de transição que temos dificuldade em usar durante quase todo o ano por serem muito quentes ou muito frias: tire do armário os trench, os blazer boy friend, os coletes (sobretudo os compridos), as camisolas com manga de morcego, …

Finally remember that this is the right time for transition garments: trench coats, boy friend blazers, vests (especially long ones), sweaters with bat sleeve may now get out of the your closet!

Em vez de ficar a lamentar o fim do Verão, divirta-se com a chegada do Outono!
